RYA youth 5 day holiday courses 2023   iCal entry for this event

Learn to sail in the school holidays!!

We run 5 day sailing courses from Monday-Friday during the Easter, May half term and the Summer holidays, catering for all abilities and for ages 9-16 years

We follow the RYA Youth syllabus, sessions are taught by RYA Instructors in a fun and supportive environment, through a mixture of formal and informal practical and theory sessions. RYA certification is awarded upon successful completion of the syllabus, and while we cannot guarantee certification, our goal is to get the best out of all our students during their time with us.

There are two levels of course to chose from:

Beginners: RYA Stage 1&2 Course

These are the first two stages of the RYA Youth Sailing Scheme, aimed at beginners and those who are new to sailing this year and this is a fantastic opportunity to do basics whilst having lots of fun on the water.

  • Assumed knowledge: little or no sailing experience.
  • Course aim: work towards RYA Stage 2 certificate; building confidence sailing, tacking, gybing plus improved boat control across the wind.

RYA Start Sailing Stage 1 content: Launching and recovery, sailing across the wind, turning around, steering and basic parts of the boat.
RYA Start Sailing Stage 2 content: Improved sailing skills on all points of sail; tacking, gybing, ropework and collision avoidance.

Intermediates: RYA Stage 3&4 Course

These are the final two stages of the RYA Youth Sailing Scheme, helping those who already have a basic level of sailing competence develop into independent sailors in both single double handed boats.

  • Assumed knowledge: can sail to RYA Stage 2 standard.
  • Course aim: work towards RYA Stage 4 certificate; building confidence sailing, tacking, gybing plus improved boat control across the wind and sailing a double hander

RYA Start Sailing Stage 3 content: Improved rigging, sailing theory, launching and recovery. Building confidence in a range of sailing techniques on all points of sail and capsize recovery
RYA Start Sailing Stage 4 content: Transferring pre-learnt skills, techniques and manoeuvres to sail crewed boats, enhance rigging, launching, recovery and practical skills to recover a man overboard.
