Day trip Little Ouse from Brandon
A social paddle for those with a bit more experience who either have their own boat or are able to borrow one from the club and transport it.
Meeting at 9 to be on the water for 9.30am we will be paddling on the beautiful Little Ouse from Brandon towards Lakenheath Fen as an out & back paddle. Kingfishers & egrets are frequently spotted on this quiet stretch of river with larger birds of prey often visible as we approach RSPB Lakenheath. We may be lucky & see otters too. We will be stopping midway for a break at Hockwold cum Wilton before heading onwards towards Lakenheath Fen where the landscape opens out into wide views. After turning back we plan to have a lunch stop at an aqueduct structure if water levels allow for landing. If not we will stop again at Hockwold cum Wilton before heading back to the start point. The total distance to Lakenheath Fen and return is approximately 10.5 miles, but the paddle length will depend on the weather conditions and how the group feel on the day. As it is an out and back paddle, we have the option to turn back at any point should we need to do so. We would aim to be off the water by about 14:30.
There is easy, free parking & toilets available at Brandon. Detailed parking information will be given out with final instructions. Bring drinks & snacks/ lunch and dress appropriately for the weather conditions on the day.
The trip is suitable for those paddlers who are comfortable with getting back in to their boat with assistance in the event of a capsize and are happy with paddling this distance in their chosen craft.
If you are unsure whether this paddle is suitable for you, or would like any more information please contact us before booking.
The trip will be weather dependent so please keep an eye on your emails nearer to the date in case plans change.
