Tuesdays - Paddlesport - Improvers Course (IP5)   iCal entry for this event

Do you already have some paddling experience under your belt? Have you just completed our Paddle UK Start Award. Then our Intermediate course is the next step for you. This course is designed to help you refine your skills and deepen your understanding of paddling in various environments, including the sea and rivers.

The aim of this six-week course is to help you evolve your decision making and practical skills, giving you confidence on the water. During this course you will progress towards achieving the Paddle UK Discover Award.

What is the Discover Award?

The Discover Award allows you to develop your decision making and practical skills for a fun and safe time on the water, as you become a more skilled and independent paddler. Through this award you will learn how to choose and effectively use equipment, whilst developing an understanding of the factors which affect your paddling.

Who is it for?

Anyone of any age who wants to learn how to get started on the water. You don’t need any previous experience to take your Discover Award, just the desire for fun and learning! This course is for all ages from 11 to 60+.

When is it?

The course is six sessions and will run on Tuesday 2nd June through to Tuesday 7th July, starting at 6:00pm and finishing at 9:00pm each evening. Following this, if you decide you wish to continue paddling, join our club as a full member and we can help you progress onto the Explorer Award.

What Craft?

You can do these courses in either:

  1. Kayak – we provide enclosed kayaks that you will learn to use with a spray deck to keep the water out.
  2. Canoe – we provide open (Canadian) canoes that you paddle as a pair and then solo.
  3. Sit-on Kayak – if you want to use a Sit-on then please bring one along with you (as the club does not have any).
  4. SUP - if you want to use a SUP then please bring one along with you (as the club does not have any).

Note: There is a separate Junior Course aimed at young people with a separate information leaflet. If you are 11 to 15 years old, you may prefer the Junior course which runs on Saturday Morning.

The course is typically run for up to 6 people.

Is this course suitable for you?

To do our course on our flowing / wavy waters you will need certain amount of flexibility / mobility (typically we would expect as a guide: an ability to kneel for extended periods, the ability to rotate your torso to the left and right way whist sitting down). Our courses are aimed at progressing from paddling on calm water to then equip you for group paddling on rivers and the sea in a range of conditions.

PLEASE READ THE INFORMATION LEAFLET for all the details of the course.

We will use your personal data for administering your course entry and membership. We share data with WebCollect and statistical data/certificate data with Paddle UK. We will contact you regarding membership, renewal, club events and trips - you can select how you are contacted on the application form.
