ADULTS: Beginner two day RYA Level 1 course on Saturdays 7th and 14th June at MARTELLO LAKES. This is a introductory course for those who have done no or just a little bit of dinghy sailing. Please book for the two days.

OPEN DAY ON BANK HOLIDAY MONDAY 5th MAY 2025: Be part of the DISCOVER SAILING initiative at Conningbrook Lakes, Ashford or at the Martello Lakes, Hythe  with sailing tasters for Adults/Youth/Kids (minimum age 8).

The DISCOVER SAILING TASTER DAY will be at the Martello Lakes, Hythe on Bank Holiday Monday 5th May 2025. Book a one hour taster sail on a big boat, supervised by a team member on board the boat.

RYA training courses are usually 2 days unless otherwise indicated

RYA courses are usually 10am arrival, finish by 5pm excluding changing times:

Please arrive as changed as possible. If you need to change before 10am, then arrive from 9.30am. Changing continues until 5.30pm if needed. For those aged 14 or less, changing needs to be supervised by a parent/guardian.

Arrive as ready as you can in your sailing kit at the sailing location.

Club sessions are usually 10am to 1pm for morning sessions and 2pm to 5pm for afternoon sessions unless otherwise notified to you. Lunch break is usually 1pm to 2pm for whole day sessions from 10am to 5pm.

All required RYA course materials and RYA certificate are included in the RYA course cost

The instructor will let participants know if more time is needed to complete the requirements of any certification.

After School Sailing Clubs

Please arrive at the lake at the start of the session, no need to arrive beforehand.

Please can participants arrive wearing their own wetsuit (shortie wetsuit is fine) with swimsuit underneath, neoprene beach shoes or old trainers, bike helmet, towel. Bring a warm top for afterwards. Packed lunch/drink for full days or drink/snack for half days. Wear suncream and bring your own hand sanitizer with you. You may like to bring some spare clothes/shoes in a bag in case you want to change afterwards.

and then it is a short walk to the lakes on your RHS.

However, toilet facilities can be used at the stadium and we advise folk to use the lower ground door from the athletic track area.

If you missed our sailing taster days, you can still BOOK A SAILING TASTER on any of our sailing days which are usually in holiday times at CONNINGBROOK, or most Sundays at HYTHE.

Just book online via this webcollect site. You will be looked after on a bespoke basis for your first ever sailing session. If you would then like to pursue sailing further, we ask you to take a beginner's sailing course with us to teach you the basics if you haven't sailed before, or some refresher training if you have sailed before but some time ago.

Conningbrook Lakes Sailing is located in the Conningbrook Lakes Country Park in the vicinity of the Julie Rose Stadium in Ashford, Kent. We offer sailing tuition and recreational sessions for children aged 8+, youth and adults most of the year round. As well as our sail training courses, we have a range of boats suitable for racing on the water or just gentle cruising around the lakes. We are a Royal Yachting Association (RYA) accredited Training Centre, and also have RYA OnBoard recognition for our weekly after school sailing clubs. Furthermore, we are also RYA Sailability accredited.

With a friendly atmosphere, our enrolled members enjoy the lake with its wildlife and beautiful setting, and there are plenty of opportunities to go out on the water. 

Volunteers are also welcome to help as part of the "beach team" or on the safety boat. We also offer powerboat courses. Paddleboarding is also possible for kids, youth and adults, please enquire. 

Supported by Ashford Borough Council, the Centre is committed to training and encouraging children, young people and adults to take up sailing. All our courses, run by fully qualified RYA instructors, can cater for all abilities and our programme has been put together to develop sailing skills as well as personal and team skills.

We require all to have passed at least a beginner course (kids/youth stage 3 course or Adult Level 1 course) before taking part in recreational sailing. Courses are offered on a regular basis so please enquire. If you don't have a course certificate, we can also directly assess your sailing skills, or let us know (adults) what sailing you have done elsewhere.

We also run several regular weekly after school sailing clubs in the summer term and first half of the autumn term. Some are for booked groups, and others are for open participation, so if you wish your child to participate in a weekly after school club, please enquire as places are usually available for weekly attendance. 

It's always worth enquiring about sessions running as we sometimes have more sessions available than are publicly published or can decide to add in extra sessions on enquiry.

Conningbrook Lakes Sailing is run by Cinque Ports Sailing Ltd which also offers the opportunity to yacht sail at Dover and new in 2024, we will be offering dinghy sailing in Dover Harbour.

Membership Enrolments with annual subscriptions are required for all participants and bring you under the insurance policy of Cinque Ports Sailing Ltd.

The annual membership enrolment fee is for membership in any given year from 1 January to the end of December and is non-refundable.

It's easy to book a place on one of our courses/events. Simply book a place on the site (this should be a parent/guardian of children who want to take a course/training) complete any relevant info, and access the online booking system.

Terms and Conditions of booking: 

All organised sailing activity at Conningbrook Lakes is administered by Cinque Ports Sailing (the Sailing School). In order to comply with insurance requirements all children and adults must be enrolled in Cinque Ports Sailing. The annual enrolment fee must be paid and is non-refundable (£15 for children, £25 for adults). Please enrol via membermojo.co.uk/cinqueports 

Temporary enrolment may be offered as part of open days, taster sessions or reconnect sessions at the discretion of the club/training centre.

Should you need to cancel 14 days or less prior to the course/training start date, the full amount is still due if the place cannot be filled with another participant. All payments are non-refundable but bookings can be transferred to other dates subject to availability and cancellation terms. A £10 administration fee applies for all booking changes and must be received to enable the booking alteration. 

The course/training may be subject to postponement/delay due to weather conditions etc. 

Alternative arrangements will be agreed with participants and their parents/guardians. 

By making a payment for a booking, you agree to and understand the course/training arrangements also in the case of cancellation. Cinque Ports Sailing terms and conditions apply at all times. Cinque Ports Sailing follows its child and vulnerable adults safeguarding policy. 

Data Protection Act: By making a booking, you understand that Cinque Ports Sailing will keep details of bookings on file and may share this information with other approved organizations with regards to sailing.
