The RYA First Aid Course is a one day, 8 hour training designed for those who go boating, covering standard first aid with a focus on marine specific scenarios, like cold water shock and hypothermia. It includes topics like CPR, treating common injuries and recovery position in a confined space. The qualification is a pre-requisite for many RYA qualifications, such as instructor certificates, but is also potentially a life saving qualification, both for use at any sailing club and also in everyday life.

Course Details:

  1. Duration: One day, approximately 8 hours, starting at 9am.
  2. Content: Covers standard first aid topics like resuscitation, bleeding, burns and breaks, with specific focus on marine-related issues such as shock, hypothermia, cold shock and nausea.
  3. Skills: Includes practical experience in a confined space recovery position and CPR
  4. Prerequisites: None, but it is aimed at anyone who spends time on or around water.
  5. Certification: Valid for three years
  6. Requirements: Meets the RYA/MCA requirements for professional qualifications, such as instructor certificates.
  7. Start Time: 9:00am, but please arrive at least five minutes before.
  8. Provision: Tea and coffee will be provided, but please bring your own lunch. Crisps and chocolate will be available from the bar at normal prices.
