Spurs Training & Test
The introduction of The Spurs Test is to focus on the welfare of the horse or pony when being ridden in spurs. It is an assessment to ensure that the rider is able to show an understanding of the use of spurs and show the ability to ride, with a balanced position, therefore control of their lower leg and so correct use of the spurs.
It is important that spurs are only worn by riders who have a stable lower leg and who are able to use – or not use – the spur intentionally.
Members wishing to ride with spurs at Pony Club activities must have achieved the C+ Riding Test or The Spurs Test.
We are delighted Essex Union South PC are offering pony club members spurs training and test as a combined training and test package. The package will consist of the following:
Monday 27th April - Zoom Theory Training Session (PM)
Saturday 2nd May - Mounted Session Beechwood EC (AM)
Thursday 14th May - Spurs Test Beechwood EC (PM)
Pony Club members must attend all elements of the training to go forward for the test on the evening of Thursday 14th May 2026. Please note that if members are not deemed ready for the test then they will be informed in advance.
Total training and test will cost £55.00
Equestrian venues, EUSPC coaches are businesses and commit to working with us for us to benefit our members. In the unlikelihood you need to cancel, 48 hours notice is required. Less than 48 hours notice a refund or credit cannot be issued unless the space is taken by another member. Thank you for your understanding in this matter.
