Arran - Corrie and Lochranza
Leaders: David Webster & Luisa Hendry
In Hutton's Tercentenary year, the unconformity at Siccar Point is getting all the attention! But there's another Hutton unconformity on Arran and it's much easier to get to! Our day excursion to Arran will visit the unconformity and call in at the nearby Geopark centre in Lochranza. En-route we'll walk the Corrie shore section - a wonderful continuous exposure from the Devonian Old Red Sandstone through the condensed Carboniferous into the Permian New Red Sandstone.
We plan to use public transport - Calmac ferry from Ardrossan and bus on Arran. Buy your own passenger ferry tickets online, but can be bought on the day at the port. Make your own way to Ardrossan (car/bus/train)
Likely timetable:
Ferry from Ardrossan 09:45 arrives Brodick 10:40. Cost £10.60 return
Bus Brodick to Corrie 10:55 arrives 11:13, approximately 3 hours to look at Corrie foreshore section + lunch (Hotel or packed lunch).
Bus 13:58 to Lochranza, arrive 14:18. Walk to Hutton's unconformity, visit Geopark centre, plus distillery/castle/pub options
Bus to Brodick 18:27 arrive 19:05
