Bee Health Certificate

The Bee Health Certificate aims to help beekeepers who have already passed their Basic Assessment acquire some of the skills needed at the General Husbandry level.

Beekeepers who have been awarded the BBKA Basic Assessment Certificate and have at least 3 years beekeeping experience can apply for this certificate to improve their understanding and practice of beekeeping. Its focus is on diseases; it is a practical assessment.

Topics include Hygiene, Statutory requirements re disease control, AFB, EFB, other brood diseases and conditions, Adult brood diseases, Virus damage related to Varroosis and other virus diseases, Colony starvation and Spray poisoning, Pests, new threats, the role of the National Bee Unit and Beebase

Practical tasks included in the assessment are Shook Swarm, Bailey Comb exchange, Collecting a sample of bees and Use of a Lateral Flow Device.

Applications are direct to BBKA (by the end of February) via a link sent to you by the Education Officer. The Assessment must be taken by the end of July.
