2016 Weekend Course - How to be a Bee Keeper
11th/12th June 2016 Weekend - New Beekeeper Course at Temple Newsam
For people interested in taking up Beekeeping as a hobby, Leeds Beekeepers Association are offering a number of courses for beginners during 2016. At the end of end of all our new bee keeper courses you will be in a position if you wish to start keeping your own honey bees.
This weekend course covers both beekeeping theory including swarming, hive types, buying bees, apiary locations, getting started,where to purchase equipment from and practical beekeeping where you will be tutored whilst inspecting live colonies of bees. You will be conducting inspections on live colonies with 50,000 plus honey bees in them that is both educational and very enjoyable
As part of your fee you will become a members of Leeds Bee Keepers Association and the British Bee Keepers Association which will include bee keeping newsletters through the year.
Over the weekend we provide refreshments and a cold buffet lunch on both days
The weekend course is fun, enjoyable and educational. It is practical in nature and aimed at individuals who have no previous experience. You will be amongst individuals who are passionate about honey bees and their craft of bee keeping.
There is plenty of free carparking at Temple Newsam where the Leeds Bee Keepers Association training apiary is located
In addition to the formal courses we also meet at our apiary at Temple Newsam every Wednesday evening from April to September. Course members are actively encouraged to simply turn up and either just "talk bees” or get veiled up and tag along with someone who is doing an inspection of the bees there.
All courses are led by experienced and/or qualified beekeepers and are designed so that at the end, participants will have sufficient knowledge and confidence to keep their own bees.
We also offer discounted childrens places but any child attending must be accompanied by a paying adult.
We provide bee suits and gloves as part of the tuition fee
This is a 2 day (Saturday/Sunday) course
