13th - 17th July 2026 Intensive week 1   iCal entry for this event

What are the intensive weeks?

Our intensive weeks are 4 or 5-day sailing courses delivering RYA training. We have found this to be the most fun and effective format to deliver training over the past twenty-eight years of running LRSS. Many of our participants will gain one, if not two RYA qualifications in one week.

For youth participants, we try to run a varied and active program of sailing, games and theory. Adults have a mix of theory, on-water practical activities and land drills.

Please note that this is a FIVE day course running Monday - Friday

What are intensive week timings?

The week runs from Monday through Friday, with a start time of 10am and finish of 5pm. It runs on the dates indicated below.

Who delivers the courses?

Every LRSS activity is overseen and organised by a qualified RYA Senior Dinghy Instructor. The bulk of our teaching is carried out by RYA Dinghy Instructors.

For youth participants, we aim to operate at a ratio of one instructor to three participants. For adults, we aim to operate at a ratio of one instructor to two participants.

Which group do I book into?

It is really important to book into an appropriate group, based on the sailing ability the participant will have on the first day of the course. There is flexibility between groups, and participants will always be taught at a level appropriate to their ability. Please see guidelines below for YOUTH (16 or under) sailors:

Group NamePre-requisite LevelGroup Aims
BeginnersNo experience/Stage 1Basic skills - Stage 1/2
ImproversStage 2/3Intermediate skills - Stage 3/4
AdvancedStage 4See details below for week's aim.

And guidelines for ADULT sailors (16+):

BeginnersNo/Little experience/RefresherBasic skills - Level 1/2

If you are unsure which group is appropriate, please contact us with details of current experience levels. 16 year olds can choose to learn with youth groups or with adult groups.

What is included in the course price?

  1. 5 days' dinghy training, including dinghies and instructors.
  2. A personal flotation device for the duration of the week.
  3. Course materials - a logbook for your first stage, and a certificate for every stage afterwards.

Please note:

  1. We do not supply any personal clothing other than a buoyancy aid.
  2. We do not supply lunch.
  3. Logbooks can be purchased (£10) if you are not on a Stage 1/Level 1 beginner course, where they are supplied as standard.

What do I need to know when booking?

We only accept BACs payment. When making payment ensure that the transfer is given the reference stated by WebCollect. Any other reference, such as 'sailing course' means that we may not be able to track your payment.

Once we have received and confirmed your payment, you will receive joining instructions for the week. Please check your junk inbox for these as they can sometimes go amiss! If all is well with your booking, you might not hear from us again, so please don't worry if this is the case!
