VHF Radio Course (SRC)
Description
This course, in the classroom or online, will take you through the fundamentals of operating a marine radio, as is a requirement for most people before undertaking the RYA SRC Exam, which is required to operate VHF radio equipment.

Teaching style
Maximum 6:1 ratio when taught in the classroom over 7 hours (10 hours including pre-learning time)
Online courses are taken at your own pace, with instructional support where required.
Course Materials
We'll send you a VHF handbook by post. If you are booking within 5 days of your classroom course, we will give it to you on the day instead.
You'll be sent a PDF with some guidance on what to learn prior to the course.

The Exam
The course is usually taken as a work-up to the RYA VHF Exam, and is a great way to prepare for it. The exam fee is separate to the course fee, totalling £76 payable to the RYA. We'll give you guidance on this via email and can give you support with booking it on the day.
We run exams after every classroom course, and every so often outside of these. If you're taking an online course, we aim to get you an exam date within one month of completion.
Participation in the course (online or classroom) does not guarantee a pass in the exam!
You do not have to take the exam at the centre you take the course - if somewhere else is more convenient, let us know!
Just want an exam, no course?
If you've done a course with another centre, you are very welcome to do your exam with us. Please get in touch to arrange a convenient time. We charge only £12 for this (not including the RYA fee).
Generally, we cannot facilitate exams for those who have not done the online or classroom course. We can only do an exam without a course for those who hold one of the following:
- an RYA Restricted VHF certificate, or
- a suitable aviation radio operator's certificate
When booking
Please select the date you wish to attend a course below. The online course is set to 01-01-2035... this is just to keep it available, you won't actually have to do it in a decade!
You'll be asked to make a payment via BACs. Please ensure that your reference when paying matches the reference we give you EXACTLY so we can match your payment.
