RLSS Open Water Emergency Rescue Award 2025
The Open Water Emergency Rescue Award has been developed by the Royal Life Saving Society UK to provide staff or volunteers at open water venues with the skills and knowledge to provide backup to an existing lifeguard team or perform rescues if called upon during their regular duties. The term “Open Water” refers to still non-tidal waterways in the context of this course.
Candidates must meet the following criteria:
• Must be 16 years of age at the date of assessment
• Be able to meet the following criteria:
* Jump/ dive into deep water
* Swim 100 metres continuously on front
* Be able to submerge under the water confidently
• Must complete the minimum guided learning hours
• Successfully complete the course assessment
The guided learning hours for this course is 12 hours. This is made up of theory and practical training. Training will run on pre-arranged days and times. Once you have covered the syllabus, we will put you forward for an assessment.
