Sunday Splashabout - members only
Splashabouts are short, fun sessions where we get out for a couple of hours to muck about in boats.
The forecast for Sunday 7th July is very good and so I'm looking to take a small number of beginners/ intermediates out in North Berwick's West Bay for a short session.
The aim of the session is to get out on the water and through games and other activities, work out the best ways of controlling your boat.
These sessions are aimed at people 13 and older, as we will be using the club's sea kayaks.
Please ensure you book if you are planning to come along!
Depending on who comes along, we might be able to fit a short coastal trip into the session as well, but this is predominantly aimed at beginners/ people who are less confident going out, who want a nice, safe experience in good conditions.
What should you wear?
Something you're prepared to get wet! Most folk put on a wetsuit or a shorty wetsuit, with a windcheater top layer, and wetsuit boots or old trainers on your feet.
We have waterproof bags for a change of clothes. Take something to drink, a hot drink and something to eat as well as we're likely to have a short break on the beach.
What time do I need to get there?
Please come along to our base at the harbour - behind the SUP kiosk - for 9am, where I'll help get you kitted out and matched up to a boat that will fit you. The club provides helmet, buoyancy aid, boat and paddle as part of the fee for this activity.
I'm a bit more experienced - I've wet-exited before. Should I come along?
Great, again, depending on who's there, we can try some wet exit practice and rescue stuff. Being observed as comfortable in wet-exiting is a prerequisite for being authorised to hire our boats out under our member hire scheme, so if you're up for doing this, I'll be happy to observe!
If you have any questions, please get in touch and I'll be glad to help. I'm providing this opportunity as a qualified paddlesport instructor and all our activities will be in remit for that qualification - ie we're sticking to within 200 metres of the beach in good, comfortable, safe forecasted conditions.
If all my offered places have been booked, then please book onto the reserve list. That way, I can easily fill spaces if someone has to cancel due to something coming up.
