Speakers: James Simpson and Eleanor Budds

Summary: James Simpson and Eleanor Budds, from IHS Markit, will give a presentation on the outlook for the refining sector, focusing on industry trends and foreseeable disruptors.  The presentation will touch on supply and demand outlooks, regulatory changes, refining and petrochemical margins, and implications for the industry.

Speaker Bios: James is a Research Director for Europe, Russia/CIS and Africa. He is involved in both research and consulting projects, and manages the downstream value chain research for the three aforementioned regions. Prior to joining IHS Markit, he worked for the International Energy Agency (IEA) for six years, in the fields of energy security and then energy policy. Before joining the IEA, he worked for PFC Energy (since acquired by IHS Markit).  James holds a first class honours bachelor’s degree from the London School of Economics (LSE), and a master’s degree in Economics from the Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Paris (Sciences Po). 

Eleanor Budds is an Associate Director in the IHS Markit oil markets and downstream group. She has more than 10 years of experience in the downstream oil industry, focusing principally on European markets. Eleanor is currently responsible for the European short-term forecasting for product prices, margins and demand, as well as contributing to the long-term research team. Her areas of expertise include long- and short-term oil market dynamics, the refining industry, vehicle fleet development, environmental and downstream-related regulation at the EU and national country level, oil product retail markets, and the retail competitive environment.
