Details

A pleasant day on an unspoilt lake near leek. The Lake is the place where Rudyard Kipling’s parents first met, where Captain Webb, the first channel swimmer, came to demonstrate his skills and where The African Blondin (Carlos Trower) appeared several times amazing the crowds 30m above the Lake on a tightrope.

This is a touring trip suitable for all, and a chance to perhaps have a go at canoe sailing if that takes your fancy. The distance can be adapted to suit the group, but as the lake is large theres plenty of water to explore.

Andy Oughton has kindly offered to arange this trip and assures us of a warm welcome by the local Canoe club. A day on the lake will be followed by a optional carvery (not included in the trip fee)

From the website

Visit Rudyard Lake and take a step back in time; a place where the past has not spoilt the present; it has in fact enhanced the area through the establishment of a rural landscape and heavily wooded hillsides.

Rudyard Lake provides some of the most dramatic scenery to be found in the Staffordshire Moorlands and over 500,000 visitors come to her shores each year.

The Lake covers some 168 acres and is over 2.5 miles long.

It is owned by the Canal & River Trust and the commercial leisure activities are managed by Rudyard Lake Ltd. which employs a full time ranger on site.

Meet at the LOPC at 8am to loading boats and kit (if you need to borrow kit please come and help load it), we then drive up to Leek.

If you have your own kit feel free to meet us there, but be aware that you may have to pay for parking.

Club kit is available, just enter details on the booking form, although you'll be helping to load it anyway!
