Camp Phoenix - Summer 2020 - Week 2   iCal entry for this event

“Camp Phoenix” summer holiday activities have had to be adapted to work within the Covid-19 restrictions. In order for us to operate safely, we have had to reduce the number of activities running on site, reduce numbers in activity groups and use staggered starts and finishes. We will also maintain social distancing requirements and ensure regular handwashing. We have dropped Early Drop-off and Late Collection, Activity Weeks, Fun on the Water, Windsurfing, and river trips. Advanced sailing has also been dropped but you can join the Sailing Improvers sessions.

We have also added two additional weeks in July to help support students that haven’t returned to school. If the government restrictions change, we may be able to add more activities – so regularly check out our website for additional activities. All dates are subject to operation within the current government guidelines and may have to change at short notice. If we have to cancel an activity we will offer you a new date or a full refund.

We will provide all participants with our information sheet, explaining any changes or restrictions that we have put in place and ask for everyone’s help to achieve a safe environment.

Camp Phoenix provides a great escape into the outdoors with a range of fantastic water sports; you and your friends will have the chance to try out some really cool activities.  It’s a great opportunity to meet new friends and build up your confidence with some exciting courses, activities and challenges.  Choose from full day “Fun on the Water” or Sailing Improvers sessions or 2 day activity courses.  You can do as much or as little as you choose or build a few courses and sessions into a full week. If you want to try out a number of activities over a full week try our Activity Week’s at Easter and in the Summer Holidays.

The courses include kayaking & canoeing, dinghy sailing and windsurfing, with a selection of other activities including bell boating, sit-on tops, stand-up paddle boards, raft building, plus canoe polo, games, races, treasure hunts and short journeys. Successful completion of a British Canoeing Paddle Discover or Paddle Explore course will allow you to take out discounted membership of the Phoenix Canoe Club and join in our regular activities throughout the year. You can continue practicing your skills in sailing and windsurfing by attending our Supervised Sailing sessions on Thursday evenings from Easter to October. We also have links to Welsh Harp Sailing Club and Wembley Sailing Club to allow you to continue your sailsports in a club racing environment.

The holiday “day camps” are run by an experienced team of British Canoeing coaches and RYA Instructors at our base on the Welsh Harp reservoir. All of our coaches are fully qualified for the activities; enhanced DBS checked and regularly work with young people. We have a modern fleet of boats and safety equipment. All participants must be able to swim 10m or be water confident wearing a buoyancy aid which are worn by everyone on the water at all times. All activities on water are led and supervised by coaches at a maximum ratio of 1:8 students for paddlesport and 1:6 for sailsport. One of our team will supervise any land activities and session breaks.
