Blazing Saddles
"Blazing Saddles" is a 1974 comedy western movie directed by Mel Brooks starring Cleavon Little, Gene Wilder and Harvey Korman. It tells the story of a black Sheriff, played by Little, who is appointed Sheriff of a small Western town and how he must try to make friends with the racist towns people and stop a ruthless businessman from knocking down the town to make way for a railway line.
"Blazing Saddles" could never be made today, due to its frequent deployment of the N-word. Throughout the film, the N-word is a hard slap that’s intended to sting – then as much as now, 50 years later – and it’s Little who makes buffoons of everyone who utters it. Daring, provocative, and laugh-out-loud funny, Blazing Saddles is a gleefully vulgar spoof of Westerns that marks a high point in Mel Brooks' storied career."
The film received generally positive reviews from critics and audiences, was nominated for three Academy Awards and is today regarded as a comedy classic.
