RYA PB2 Course - 22/23 March 2025
RYA Powerboat Level 2 Course - 2025
This course is for Seafarers Sailing Club members (18 or over) who are required to be a Patrol Boat Driver and/or Crew within a duty crew (or other sailing support roles). It is therefore by arrangement only.
The course will cover:
- How to set up a boat ready to go to sea
- Basic engine checks
- Launch and recovery of a boat
- What safety gear you should have and how to wear or use it!
- Methods on how to start/stop a boat
- Man Overboard procedures
- How to work with and against the elements during slow boat manoeuvres
- Different techniques of coming alongside and leaving a berth
- Slow speed drills, remember 'Slow is Pro'
- Ropes and knots
- Knowledge of how to tow a boat
- Local regulations and where to find them
- How to avoid an accident using the International Regulations for Prevention of Collisions at Sea - IRPCS
- Understanding the weather
- Using an Almanac to get the tide times and other info
- Chart work and basic navigation
- Planing speed manoeuvres
- Anchoring and mooring

Fees:
The cost is £31.50 which includes the RYA Powerboat level 2 pack (Handbook and Certificate) and the Powerboat Scheme syllabus and Logbook (G20).
If you have a G20 logbook from a previous RYA Powerboat course then you can use that and the cost will be £25.50.
Assessment:
Students will be assessed on a continuous basis throughout the period of the course.
Certificates:
On successful completion of this course the trainee will be awarded an RYA Level 2 Powerboat Certificate.
Payment and Cancellation Policy:
All payments for training courses at Seafarers Sailing Club must be made to the Treasurer. Applications will not be confirmed until the relevant course fee has been paid.
Applicants who cancel their booking more than 28 days before the course start date will have their course fee refunded in full.
Applicants who cancel their booking less than 28 days before the course start date will not normally have their fee refunded. In special cases applicants may seek a refund by writing to the Training Secretary.
In all cases the decision of the RYA Principal will be final.
