Tuesday Talk - Container Ships and Leisure Craft - 23 Jan 24   iCal entry for this event

Please bring a little cash with you if possible!   We will have a charity collection during the evening, going to our speaker's preferred charity  -   The Portsmouth Sail Training Trust.

'Container Ships in The Solent, and their interaction with leisure craft' - Dave Fortey - this talk will be about container history, and operations in and around The Solent, with particular emphasis on safety and their interaction with leisure craft. The talk will also cover suspicious maritime activity including maritime modern slavery and national security.

David Fortey is currently a ship's Agent for the CMA CGM Container line, his background is varied, starting out in the Royal Navy, then in shipping intelligence with Special Branch followed by a spell in Border Force at Government level developing maritime modern slavery legislation and training enforcement agencies, all the time continuing as a maritime practitioner on board ships of all types.

He will give us an interesting presentation covering a wide field starting with container/large ship operations within The Solent and general South and South West shipping areas. David will go on to talk about maritime slavery (yes, it does happen in The Solent area!), smuggling, drugs, weapons and general nefarious activity.

Cruising members should find this particularly interesting, but really anyone using The Solent waters.

Bar open from 19.30 and the talk starts promptly just after 20.00.

Please just turn up on the night, although it is helpful to know the number of people likely to attend if you can book in.   There is no charge.  Guests welcome.
