Minimum Age:

Experience:

Candidates must first be an RYA Dinghy Instructor and must fulfil the following criteria prior to the SI course: 

At least two years intermittent or one-year full time instructing since qualifying as an RYA Dinghy or Multihull Instructor (for Dinghy Senior Instructors) or as an RYA Keelboat Instructor (for Keelboat Senior Instructors). 

Sailing ability to at least the standard of RYA Instructor (an assessment may be necessary if sailing ability cannot be adequately demonstrated during the training course) 

Pre-entry assessment:

Signed recommendation from the Principal of an RYA Recognised Training Centre. 

Completion of the Senior Instructor Workbook and any preparation work sent out by the Coaches prior to the course starting. 

Training Course:

Courses are run on a regional basis with a minimum of six students. 

The course may take the form of two weekends (four whole days) and include some material covered prior to the course. 

The assessment will be continuous and will be made by at least two Trainers. 

Qualifies to Teach:

On completion of this course, you will be able to: 

Organise and manage RYA National Sailing Scheme and Youth Sailing Scheme sailing courses. 

Organise and control group sailing tuition of all ages and abilities. 

Supervising, direction and assisting a team of Instructors and Assistant Instructors. 

Validity:

Five years from date of issue if supported by a valid first aid certificate. Little or no logged experience may require a re-assessment. 

Meals:

The course does not include any food or drink provisions. Please ensure you bring everything you may need. There is also a cafe on site (although not in the same building).

Accommodation:

In the local area there is several hotels, including a Premier Inn and Best Western. There is also a camping and caravaning site just 20 mins walk away in Coed-y-Paen (no on site facilities).

Parking:

Parking onsite at the Lake carrys a small charge of £3 per day (this is out of our control). Please pay at the machine alongside the watersports building. You can park in the carpark close to the Watersports Centre, to get there: come through the main gate infront of the cafe. Follow the road around to the right and up the hill. Turn left after the boat park.

Cancellation Policy:

Course Cancellation and Refund Policy

If Llandegfedd Sailing Club cancels a course for any reason, participants will be offered either a full refund or the option to transfer their booking to a future course.

If a participant cancels their place on a course with 14 days’ notice or less, no refund will be issued unless the place can be filled by another full-paying participant. If the place is successfully resold, a full refund will be issued minus a £65 booking fee, which covers essential costs already incurred.

If a participant cancels their place with more than 14 days’ notice but less than 30 days’ notice, a full refund will be issued minus a £65 booking fee to cover essential costs already incurred.

If a participant cancels their place with more than 30 days’ notice, a full refund will be issued.
