RLSS Open Water Life Guard Course with integrated Emergency First Aid at Work   iCal entry for this event

The Open Water Lifeguard (OWL) Qualification was developed by the Royal Life Saving Society UK to address the role of open water lifeguards and the needs of open water operators. 

The OWL qualification can be used as a standalone qualification to supervise and provide rescue cover for planned, organised and risk assessed activities in still, non-tidal water. 

This course also boasts the additional qualification of integrated Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW), which will be assessed via a multiple choice question paper at the end of the course.


Candidates must meet the following criteria to enrol:

• Must be minimum 16 years of age 

• Be confident in open water and able to swim at least 400 metres in a pool/ open water swimming continuously on their front and showing urgency

• Be able to submerge under the water confidently


Dates: This course will be run over a number of days. Attendance on the course must be 100% to be able to be eligible to undertake the lifeguard exam on the final day.

Day 1: Saturday 4th July, 8am - 4pm at Manvers Lake

Day 2: Tuesday 7th July 6-9pm - online sessions

Day 3: Wednesday 8th July 6-9pm at Manvers Lake

Day 4: Sunday 12th July - 8am to *5pm at Manvers Lake

*at the end of day 4, there will be a practical open water lifeguard exam.


Manvers Members will be able to claim an £80 reimbursement of course fees upon completion of 10 hours of swimming/swim section event lifeguarding.
