RYA Powerboat Level 2
RYA Powerboat Level 2 (PB2)
Scammonden Water Sailing Club
Your gateway to confident powerboating.
The RYA Powerboat Level 2 course is the most widely recognised powerboat qualification and the perfect introduction to driving small powered craft. Whether for leisure, work, or club safety boat duties, this 2-day practical course gives you the skills, knowledge, and confidence to operate a powerboat safely in a variety of conditions.
Over the two days, you’ll learn how to:
- Launch and recover a powerboat from a trailer or slipway
- Prepare the boat and complete essential safety checks
- Manoeuvre confidently at both slow speed and planing speed
- Pick up moorings, anchor, and secure to pontoons
- Perform man overboard recovery drills
- Plan and execute a short coastal or inland passage
- Understand navigation basics, tides, buoyage, and charts
- Use VHF radio and emergency procedures effectively
This course is taught in small groups (maximum 3 students per instructor) to ensure plenty of time at the helm and tailored feedback.
On successful completion, you’ll be awarded the RYA Powerboat Level 2 certificate, which can be used to apply for the International Certificate of Competence (ICC) for vessels up to 10m.
