NOTICE OF RACE 

1. RULES:
1.1 The event is governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing.
1.2 RRS 44.1 is changed as shown in Para 10.1 of this Notice of Race (below).

1.3 RRS 42.3(c) is substituted by 505 Class Rule B13 as shown in Para 10.2 of this Notice of Race (below). 

 

2. SAILING INSTRUCTIONS:
The sailing instructions will be available upon registration at the TSC Clubhouse. 

 

3. ELIGABILITY & ENTRY:
3.1 The regatta is open to all boats of the International 505 Class with a current measurement certificate and all competitors shall be current members of their National 505 Association.
3.2 Boats may enter the event by registering online at www.tynemouthsc.co.uk prior to 18th May 2023.
3.3 To be considered an entry in the event, a boat shall complete all registration requirements and pay all fees.
3.4 Late entries will be accepted after 18th May and prior to 1st June 2023 on payment of the ‘late entry fee’.
3.5 Competitors less than 18 years of age during the event shall submit signed Parent / Guardian Declarations before racing (available from TSC). 

 

4. FEES:
4.1 The Entry Fee is £180.00
4.2 The Late Entry Fee is £220.00 

 

5. ADVERTISING:
Boats may be required to display advertising chosen and supplied by the organising authority.

 

6. SCHEDULE:
6.1 Registration: Wednesday 31 st May 2023 from 16.00 to 18.00 hrs and on Thursday 1st June from 09.00 to 11.00. A competitors briefing shall be held in the clubhouse on Thursday 1st June at 11.00am.
6.2 Racing:
Thursday 1nd June: Race 1 Start: 13.00 hrs. Races 2 & 3 to follow High Tide: 14.14 .
Friday 2nd June: Race 4 Start: 12.00 noon Races 5 & 6 to follow High Tide: 14.57 .
Saturday 3rd June: Race 7: Start: 12.00 noon Races 8 & 9 to folow High Tide: 15.40 .
Sunday 4th June: Race 10: Start: 11.00 hrs Race 11 to follow High Tide: 16.24
6.3 No warning signal will be made after 14.00 hrs on Sunday 4th June. 

 

7. EQUIPMENT INSPECTION:
Boats may be inspected at any time. 

 

8. VENUE:
8.1 Tynemouth Sailing Club is located at Priors Haven beach, Tynemouth, on the north bank of the Tyne Estuary adjacent to Tynemouth Castle & Priory. Changing and refreshment facilities available in the Clubhouse. Bar & Galley in TSC Clubhouse.
8.2 The Racing Area will be either in the ‘North Bay’ off Tynemouth to the north of the North Pier; or in the ‘South Bay’ off South Shields to the south of the South Pier. 

 

9. COURSES:
Windward Leeward Courses in all races. 

 

10. PENALTIES:
10.1 RRS 44.1 is changed so that the Two-Turns Penalty is replaced by the One-Turn Penalty.
10.2 RRS 42.3(c) is substituted by 505 Class Rule B13 as follows: ‘Except on a beat to windward, when surfing (rapidly accelerating down the face of a wave) or planing is possible, the boat’s crew may pull any sail in order to initiate or maintain surfing or planing, but not more than three repeated pulls and releases of the sail may be made for each wave or gust of wind.’ 

 

11. SCORING:
11.1 Scoring as per RRS Appendix A.
11.2 For the UK Championships, 11 races are scheduled & 4 races must be completed to constitute a series.
11.3 Discard Profile: (a) When fewer than 5 races have been completed, each boat’s series score will be the total of her scores. (b) When from 5 to 8 races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores excluding her worst score. (c) When 9 or more races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores excluding her two worst scores. 

 

12. RISK STATEMENT:
Rule 3 of the Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS 3) states, ‘The responsibility for a boat’s decision to participate in a race or to continue racing is hers alone’. Sailing is by its nature an unpredictable sport and therefore inherently involves an element of risk. By taking part in the event each competitor agrees and acknowledges that:
(a) They are aware of the inherent element of risk involved in the sport and accept responsibility for the exposure of themselves their crew and their boat to such inherent risk whilst taking part in the event;
(b) They are responsible for the safety of themselves , their crew, their boat and other property whether afloat or ashore;
(c) They accept responsibility for any injury, damage or loss to the extent caused by their own actions or omissions;
(d) Their boat is in good order, equipped to sail in the event and they are fit to participate;
(e) The provision of a race management team, safety ribs and other officials and volunteers by the event organiser does not relieve them of their own responsibilities;
(f) The provision of safety boat cover is limited to such assistance, particularly in extreme weather conditions, as can practicably be provided in the circumstances;
(g) It is their responsibility to familiarise themselves with any risks specific to this venue or this event drawn to their attention in any rules and information produced for the venue or event and to attend any safety briefing held for the event. The fact that race officials may conduct inspections of a boat does not reduce the responsibilities of each competitor set out in this Notice of Race. 

 

13. INSURANCE:
Each participating boat shall be insured with a valid third-party liability insurance with a minimum cover of £2,000,000 per incident or equivalent. 

 

14. SUPPORT BOATS:
Support boats shall register at the Race office during the registration period. 

 

15. RADIO COMMUNICATION:
Except in an emergency, a boat that is racing shall not make voice or data transmissions and shall not receive voice or data communication that is not available to all boats. 

 

16. TROPHIES & PRIZES:
Prizes will be awarded for the first three boats in the series. Other prizes will be awarded as appropriate. 

 

17. MEDIA RIGHTS:
Competitors automatically grant to the organising authority without payment the right in perpetuity to make, use and show any motion pictures, still pictures and live, taped or filmed television of or relating to the event.
