If we receive bounce back responses from an email address, saying that the email could not be received, we mark the email address as invalid in the system. Depending on the type of bounce back response, this might happen immediately, or after 10 attempts.
You can see which members have email addresses that have been marked as invalid on the members list page. From Admin home, click on the members link in the Membership Summary Section. In the Filter by Member Details section, select:
- No to see all members with invalid email addresses
- No (excl @temp) to see those members who have a proper email address which is invalid. This will not list the members who were added to the system without an email address.
Note: If a member with an invalid email address is in a group, then the system will send the email to the group administrator if their email address is valid. So, just because someone's email address is invalid, doesn't necessarily mean that they won't receive the email. This is particularly relevant for children who have been added to a family group without an email address.
