Why do some payment methods cost more than others?
Your club or society may have to pay a lot more to accept payment by credit card or Paypal for example. If that is the case, they may pass that cost on to you. You will see the amount listed as a payment surcharge when you click on the payment method on the checkout page.
Paying by Paypal
If your club or society is set up to receive payments by Paypal, you will see Paypal as a payment method on the checkout page. You don't need to have a Paypal account to pay using Paypal. When you click on the Paypal option, you will be taken to a page on the Paypal site, where you can enter your card details. If you don't have a Paypal account, you don't need to set one up, just enter your card details as if you were paying on a normal internet site.
Once you are done, Paypal will send you back to the WebCollect site to finally confirm the order details and finish the process.

Paying by Direct Debit
If your club or society has direct debit set up as a payment method, you will see this as an available option on the checkout page.
You may see 2 different possible direct debit options:
-
Direct Debit (single). This allows you
to make a one-off payment using direct debit. If you
haven't done this before, you will be directed to our partner
site GoCardless, where you
will be asked to set up an account. This takes only a few
minutes and they will ask you for the following details:
- Your name, email and address
- Your bank account details (account holder name, sort code and account number)
- A password (so you can access your GoCardless account again)
Once you have set up your details with GoCardless, you will come back to the WebCollect site to check and confirm your order. Payments by direct debit take a few days to go through, particularly the first time, so don't be surprised if the money doesn't leave your bank account immediately.
There is no charge or cost to you as a member to set up and use a GoCardless account.
- Direct Debit (recurring). When you choose the Direct Debit option, you will be asked if you want to "Allow future payments". If you tick this box, you will be able to make payments in the future to your organisation, using the direct debit, without having to visit GoCardless again (or re-add your bank details). Your organisation will also be able to take future payments, e.g. for annual or monthly subscriptions, on the direct o set up a repeating direct debit instruction, useful if you are paying for a subscription and would like the next payment to be taken automatically.Next time you place an order using direct debit, you will just need your GoCardless email address and password to make a payment.
Once you place the order, you will receive an email confirming your order. This email will contain the organisation's bank details and a reference number to use when you make the payment.
