Who pays the transaction charges?

The transaction charges do vary by payment method, but the general rule is that they are paid by the organisation, not by the member.  You can find a summary of what the likely charges will be on our pricing page.

Here's a quick summary of how/when you are likely to pay the charges, by payment method:

  • online Direct Debit:  GoCardless deduct their (and our) commission before they pass the funds on to you
  • Paypal:  Paypal deduct their commission/charges when the funds are transferred (ie the amount you receive is net of their charges).  We currently invoice Paypal transaction charges in arrears (either 3 monthly or annually, depending on usage).
  • Bank transfer/Cheque:  No charge from us.  Your bank will normally charge you monthly in arrears for transactions on your account
  • Credit/Debit Cards:  We currently invoice credit/debit card transaction charges in arrears (either 3 monthly or annually, depending on usage).  How your Bank charges you will depend on the arrangements you have in place.

Note:  You can pass on the transaction charges to the member, by configuring a payment surcharge.
